Content advisory for those auditioning for Spring Awakening

Spring Awakening is a show which deals with intense subject matters, sexual content, and themes of abuse and oppression. For context, this content is not recommended for those under the age of 14 or for whom this extended content warning is triggering.  This is intended to support patrons who might be triggered by certain events.

 

It is important to acknowledge that while this play is set in the past, the topics, themes, and subject matter are relevant today more than ever. While challenging, we encourage individuals to embrace these subjects with the same care and compassion that the original artists who brought this story to life on the stage twenty years ago did.

  • Oppressive religion, sexism, ageism, classism

• Parental abuse

  • Grooming of minors for abuse, physical abuse of children by adults including teachers and parents, verbal abuse

• Violence

  • Domestic violence; assault; depictions of self harm; the suggestion of suicide with a razor and a suicide by gun; weapons: a gun, a razor, a whip

• Sexual Content

  • Puberty; sexual fantasizing; sexual activity including kissing, caressing, spanking/switching, intercourse, masturbation, and group masturbation; nudity; abortion, loss of pregnancy

• Language

  • Verbal harassment/abuse, explicit language
