Director's Note

Living as a Catholic in what was considered the "missionary" field of Appalachian Kentucky, I was far removed from the often stereotypical perception of the nun. My exposure to "nun-dom" was in the guise of Sister Collette.

I never saw Collette in a habit; it was either flannel shirts and jeans or freshly ironed pastel dresses at Mass. She had a marvelous sense of humor and was my partner in square dance class at the local elementary school. She was warm and complete with human frailties, strengths, and compassion. She loved a good joke.

Nunsense playwright, Dan Goggin, writes in his forward, "I spent a great deal of my life around nuns. And most of my experiences left wonderful memories. I wrote Nunsense because I wanted to share what I knew to be 'the humor of the nun.' Though it may be hard to believe after you read this script, each of the Little Sisters of Hoboken is based on a real-life nun."

With Goggin's words in mind, I dedicate this show to Sister Collette. I know she would tell our Little Sisters of Hoboken to "Sell it, Girls!"
